The Question That Changed Everything: How My Son Pushed Me Into My Second Act

Have you ever felt like you were drowning in planners, alarms, and endless to-do lists, yet still felt completely scattered?

That was me.

I used to joke with my kids that I wished someone would invent an app that could handle it all—business deadlines, family schedules, workouts, prayer time, even grocery lists. One dashboard to make sense of my life.

One afternoon, while I was venting about this dream tool, my son looked up from his video game and said:

“Mom, why don’t you build it yourself?”

I laughed. Me? In my forties? I wasn’t “techy.” I’d built my career in finance and construction, not software.

But he pushed back: “You went back to school to do your MBA in Finance while raising us. You built a company from scratch. Why couldn’t you learn this?”

That question changed everything.

When curiosity becomes a strategy

I couldn’t shake it.

So I started small—YouTube tutorials on AI and no-code app building. Intro courses that broke down the jargon, and certifications that went deeper. Late nights after the kids were in bed, piecing things together. Step by step, curiosity turned into capability.

What began as a personal frustration with my chaotic schedule grew into something much bigger. Today, I consult with entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, small and mid-sized businesses, and organizations, helping them unlock profitability, efficiency, and growth by using AI strategically.

Reinvention is not starting over

It hasn’t been easy. The AI world moves fast—sometimes dizzyingly so. Balancing motherhood, business, and study stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. There were moments I wondered if I was too late or too overwhelmed to make it work.

But I realized something important: reinvention doesn’t erase the past. It builds on it.

My two decades in finance and operations weren’t irrelevant—they were the foundation. My ability to see patterns in numbers, manage complexity, and lead teams through high-stakes projects positioned me perfectly for this new chapter. Layering AI on top of that experience allowed me to translate what I already knew into modern solutions that create real impact.

That’s why I call this my “Second Act.”

What this means for you:

Maybe you’re in a similar place. You’ve built something, mastered something, proven something. And now you’re wondering if there’s more.

Maybe you’re curious about AI but convinced you’re not “technical enough.” Or maybe you feel like it’s too late to pivot into something new.

Here’s what I’ve learned: the skills you already have are more transferable than you think. Your experience isn’t wasted. And curiosity, paired with consistency, can take you further than you ever imagined.

The question I’ll leave you with

Has a single question or challenge ever launched you into a new direction?

For me, it was my son’s simple push: “Why don’t you build it yourself?”

Maybe for you, it’s a frustration that won’t go away, a comment from a colleague, or a moment when you realize the thing you’re waiting for won’t appear unless you create it.

What’s the question that could spark your own Second Act?
